Habitat for Humanity looks forward to your participation and thanks you for your involvement. Habitat for Humanity is committed to running an enjoyable and safe event. In order to ensure your safety and the success of the event, we would ask that you fill out and have with you on the day of the dip, all three of the event Waiver forms located above, as well as follow these guidelines:

1.

The two most important things: Have fun! Be Safe.

It may seem obvious, but if you've never done the Polar Bear Dip before...it's cold. Waiting to go in the water can be the coldest part if you're not prepared....wear warm clothes over top of what you'll be wearing in the water and keep them on until it's time to go in the water.

Bring footwear that you can change into and wear in the water so that you don't injure your feet.

Those people planning on participating in the dip should be mindful of their health condition. Anyone who has a heart or breathing disorder or who has been subject to seizures or loss of consciousness, should consult their physician before participating. Participants should also be aware that Lake Ontario contains pollutants.

Things to bring:

  • Footwear you can wear in the water
  • Towel(s)
  • Blanket(s)
  • Warm clothes to wear before and after the dip
  • A friend to help should you require assistance

2.

Remember that a Polar Bear Dip is one of the surest remedies for post New Year's Eve "drowsies"

Please note: DO NOT consume alcohol prior to the dip...It speeds up hypothermia.

Habitat for Humanity Toronto reserves the right to deny participation to anyone it believes to have consumed alcohol prior to the event.

3.

This whole event is being done to support Habitat for Humanity Toronto. If you aren't familiar with the great work that Habitat does in our community, please take the time to visit our website to learn more.

4.

Pledges - Now that you are amazed at the great work that Habitat for Humanity is doing in your community....View and Print the Pledge Form.

5.

Take the pledge form (read the instructions on it carefully) and go out and get donations from as many people as you can. We encourage individuals, sports teams, work buddies, neighbourhood groups, associations...or any other group of people to work together to get as many pledges as you can for this worthwhile cause.

6.

Bring all the pledge money, and the completed pledge form, to the event at Sunnyside Park.

7.

Join a whole bunch of "like minded" individuals in one of the most exhilarating New Year's Day traditions going.
